Pernille Bjørn

Professor at University of Copenhagen

How I became a Computer Scientist & How can Virtual Reality help to build Super hospitals?

As a Professor in Computer Science, every day is different and I love the variety in my work. I investigate the basic nature of collaborative work with the aim of designing collaborative technologies – and my main research discipline is called Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW). Since 2002 I have explored CSCW research agendas within different domain such as Healthcare (Triage systems in Emergency Departments in Vancouver, Canada); Global software development (Technologies supporting software engineers working across Europe, USA, India, and Philippines); and Tech start-up companies (Palestinian start-up; Blockchain start-ups). Currently I explore new ways to include open design, digital fabrication, and Virtual Reality in the design of collaborative technologies in e.g. architectural design of super hospitals. Finally, I have investigated through participation the new emerging Maker communities as new sites of design of technology. Here my interests is to develop Makerspace methodologies for teaching and innovation, through the examples of critical design artefacts, which challenge dominating discourse on Computer Science using IoT technologies (FemTech.dk).

Prior to becoming full Professor at University of Copenhagen in 2015, I been at the IT University of Copenhagen (ITU); University of California, Irvine (USA); Simon Fraser University, Vancouver (Canada); Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (India), and Roskilde University (RUC). The academic year 2018/2019 I will be guest professor at University of Washington, Seattle (USA).

Anne-Sofie Nielsen

CTO at nemlig.com

Venturing into the unknown – my journey into tech and management

I am 38 years old, married and the mother of three awesome daughters. I have always taken an interest in many different subjects, but ultimately decided to study computer science & engineering. It was very intriguing to me that the field of IT seemed like one where it would be possible to take part in inventing the future.

For the first years of my career, I worked as a software developer and consultant. In 2010, I was offered my first position as a manager, which was a bigger transition than I probably realized at the time. I grew into management roles with more and more responsibility, and since 2015 I have been working at nemlig.com as CTO, where I am responsible for IT and digitalization across the business.

In my spare time, I have a great passion for karate, reading books and enjoying the company of my family.
